“Hawaii Internet Speed Map” Tool – DCCA has created this tool to allow residents to report their home internet service to create a crowd-sourced map of Hawaii’s broadband landscape. Access the “Internet Speed Map” tool.
“Hawaii No Internet Service Map” Tool – DCCA has created this tool to allow residents to map their location to report that no internet service is available in their community by mapping that location. This information can help identify unserved or underserved locations to assist policymakers and other stakeholders in efforts to improve connectivity to those areas.
Hawaii Broadband & Digital Equity Office – The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) – Hawaiʻi Broadband and Digital Equity Office holds a leading role in equity and literacy efforts in the state. HBDEO currently leads the Digital Equity Act programs (State Digital Equity Planning and Capacity grants) in the State. HBDEO is producing the State’s Digital Equity Plan, fulfilling the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program requirement for a State Digital Equity Plan, which will detail a plan supporting community-centric digital equity solutions and making sure that residents have the necessary digital skills to use the Internet successfully.
University of Hawaiʻi Broadband for Hawaiʻi website. – In August 2021, Former Governor David Ige designated the University of Hawaiʻi as the lead coordinator of the broadband initiative in the State. The University is collaborating with the Hawaiʻi Broadband and Digital Equity Office and other funding recipients in the State to ensure that the more than $400 million allocated to Hawaiʻi is maximized, meaning that no one area sees duplicated efforts and all islands and communities can benefit from the programs available to the State.
The FCC has released its new National Broadband Map, which provides a far more accurate and detailed picture of broadband availability across the country than previously available. Consumers can search for their address and find information about whether broadband service is available, the internet providers that service the location, and maximum applicable download and upload speeds. The map will continue to improve because providers must update information twice a year and stakeholders, including individual consumers, may submit challenges on the accuracy of the map directly through a link on the map itself. The National Broadband Map will be used to inform allocation of federal funding for future broadband projects. – Click here to access the FCC National Broadband Map
Report on Wireline Broadband Speeds in Hawaii (July 2019) – In July 2019, DCCA issued this Report of Fixed Wireline Broadband Speeds in Hawaii. This report is based upon DCCA’s analysis of fixed wireline performance data obtained from Ookla, proprietor of Speedtest.net, which collects speed test data from over a million consumer-initiated speed tests taken in Hawaii annually. This report, which reflects one method of evaluating existing Internet service offerings in the State, is offered as a supplement to the Federal Communications Commission’s issued deployment data. Also access an interactive version of the map included in the 2019 report.
