The state of Hawaii Public Utilities Commission will hold a public hearing relating to the Application of HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY,
INC. (“HECO”), filed on July 31, 2023, requesting, among other things, a Commission
determination that the proposed 46 kilovolt (“kV”) sub-transmission lines shall be allowed
to be constructed as proposed, both below and above the ground for the
Waimomi Substation Project. Hawaiian Electric is seeing approval for a $6.3 million commitment in ratepayer funds for project constructions. The remaining $76.8 million will be funded by the Department of Defense. Ratepayers views on the 46 kV sub-transmission lines are vital.
