How to Convert an Insurance License

If You Hold an Active Hawaii Nonresident License and Would Like to Convert to a Hawaii Resident License.

Please mail in the following items:

  1. A letter of license conversion request,
  2. A Clearance Letter from the previous resident state within 90 days of the cancellation of the applicant’s previous resident license. After 90 days, the applicant needs to take and pass the Hawaii insurance exam(s),
  3. Obtain Fingerprints,
  4. A Hawaii paper application (no fee).

If all above submitted and in compliance, your nonresident license will be converted to resident license, but the license expiration date will remain the same (even if it is close to the renewal due date).  If the renewal date is near after the license is converted to a Hawaii resident license, the licensees must complete CE and pay renewal fee via NIPR prior to the resident license expiration date to extend the Hawaii resident license

If a resident licensee moves to another state, then the licensee can no longer hold a resident license in Hawaii.

If the New Home State is requesting for a Letter of Clearance from Hawaii – Submit Form LC to [email protected] (Obtain Form LC at https://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/producers/forms/).

Once you are issued a resident license in the New Home State, then submit the following items to [email protected]:

  1. A letter of license conversion request,
  2. Form AC – Contact Licensing Branch at [email protected] to obtain the AC form. The AC form must be submitted within 30 days of the change of legal residence.

We will verify that you hold an active resident license in the New Home State by checking PDB.  However, if we are unable to verify your resident license information on PDB, we will request you to submit a Letter of Certification from the New Home State

If all above submitted and in compliance, your resident license will be converted to nonresident license, but the license expiration date will remain the same (even if it is close to the renewal due date).  If the renewal date is near after the license is converted to a Hawaii nonresident license, the licensees must renew license via NIPR prior to the nonresident license expiration date to extend the Hawaii nonresident license.
