More Oahu Families Can Qualify for Rent Help

Posted on Feb 16, 2022 in Hot Topics

Through the Rental and Utility Relief Program, more residents on Oahu can now qualify for help from the Program, thanks to new federal funding and eligibility rules.

Renters who have suffered economic harm during the COVID-19 pandemic can qualify. This includes losing a job, reduced income or wages, or higher household costs since March 13, 2020. Hardships don’t have to be directly tied to the pandemic for renters to qualify, making many more families eligible.

Length of support is also increased to 18 months, up from the 12 months available before.

Other changes allow leasehold fees to be paid for eligible people living on leasehold property on Oʻahu. And mooring fees can be paid for eligible families legally living on a boat at an Oʻahu harbor.
