Līhu‘e, Kaua‘i, HI – 11/03/17 – KIUC has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for services and equipment supply for the Puʻu ʻŌpae Energy Project. Located on the west side of Kauaʻi, the project incorporates PV and pumped storage hydro technology and could provide up to 15 percent of the island’s energy needs.

KIUC has been in active development for the project since 2014. In August, conditional land agreements were reached with the Agribusiness Development Corporation board and the Hawaiian Homes Commission. In September, the KIUC Board approved expenditures of up to $350,000 for preliminary surveying and environmental studies.

The RFQ is intended to draw a wide range of responses from as many interested parties as possible for engineering services, equipment supply, and construction services. Responses to the RFQ are due on or before November 30, 2017 and will be evaluated during December. Companies offering the strongest qualifications and advantages to the project and to KIUC will be short-listed for participating in upcoming Requests for Proposals during 2018.

A copy of the RFQ package can be obtained from the KIUC website through this link: https://website.kiuc.coop/content/request-qualifications, or by contacting Dawn Huff at [email protected].
