December 14 – World Energy Conservation Day

Posted on Dec 7, 2020 in Important Events

World Energy Conservation Day is celebrated annually on the 14th of December. This global event is meant to highlight society’s dependence on energy, and the importance of energy consumption.

Reserves of all conventional forms of energy are fast depleting and current energy production is a significant source of pollution. However, every day the human population across the world uses energy to lead a civilized life. So there lies the need for energy conservation!

There are two main ways that energy use can be reduced. The first strategy is conservation. An example of this would be turning off lights and unplugging devices when you’re not using them. Hang drying clothes, opening windows instead of using the air conditioner, and driving less are other ways to reduce consumption. The second strategy is increasing efficiency. Swapping out incandescent lightbulbs with LED or CFL alternatives, purchasing high efficiency appliances, and improving insulation are ways to increase efficiency and therefore conserve energy.
