State applications must be approved by the department before taking the examination.  See PVL Filing Deadlines below.

After receiving approval notice from PVL, candidates are to register for the National Marital and Family Therapy Examination with the test vendor, Professional Testing Corporation (PTC), at https://secure.ptcny.com/apply/.  Candidates will need to select the name of the exam and then complete the PTC online application and submit their payment of the application fee.  Candidates will have the convenience of paying by credit card when they submit their online applications to PTC and will receive emailed receipts of their transactions.  They will need to respond YES to the question of whether or not they are a state candidate, then enter the appropriate state abbreviation and the unique code number (we will provide the unique code) for your state. Candidates should not share this code number with anyone else.  The candidates must select the correct testing period at the first step of the application completion process. There are no transfers to another testing period or refunds of application fees.

Candidates who require special accommodations will need to complete a Request for Special Needs Accommodations Form available from https://www.ptcny.com at least eight weeks before the testing period begins. This form must be uploaded with the online application.

Electronic testing is provided monthly throughout the U.S.  The test center in Hawaii is located on Oahu.  The PTC registration deadline is the first day of each month preceding the month in which the candidate wishes to take the exam. For example, the PTC registration deadline would be December 1, 2016, for the January 2017 testing period.
