Service Contract Provider

[§481X-10]  Prohibited acts.  (a)  No provider shall use in its name, the word “insurance”, “casualty”, “surety”, “mutual”, or any other word descriptive of the insurance, casualty, or surety business, or a name deceptively similar to the name or description of any insurance or surety corporation, or to the name of any other provider; provided that the word “guaranty” or similar word may be used by a provider.  This section shall not apply to a provider using any language prohibited by this section in its name prior to July 1, 2000; (b)  A provider or its representative shall not in its service contracts or literature make, permit, or cause to be made, any false or misleading statement, or deliberately omit any material statement that would be considered misleading if omitted; (c)  No person shall condition a loan or the sale of any property on the purchase of a service contract.

Effective November 15, 2022, new changes and mandatory requirements for individuals and business entities due to the transition to NAIC’s State Based System (SBS), please refer to Commissioner’s Memorandum 2022-10LIC.

Only a business entity may apply for the Service Contract Provider (“SCP”).

INITIAL REGISTRATION

For initial or if you held a HI Service Contract Provider registration that was inactive for more than one year.

To apply electronically:

  1. Go to http://nipr.com/ and apply for the license (Use NIPR’s “Apply for a New License” online application).
  2. Must submit Form DP for SCP and FORM FRS and the supporting financial documents via NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse (within 7 days from the date the application is submitted). Both forms can be obtained at https://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/producers/forms/.

IMPORTANT: All items above are required to be attached to the NIPR’s attachment Warehouse within 7 days of submitting the application.   Your application may be considered “rejected” if Licensing Branch does not receive the document(s) within 7 days from the date the application is submitted. No refund if application is rejected.

RENEWAL OR LATE RENEWAL (Late Renewal means if you held a HI Service Contract Provider registration that has been inactivated within one year of expiration).

Each Service Contract Provider shall renew its registration by July 31 each year.

  1. Renew or pay for the late renewal fee at http://nipr.com/ (Use NIPR’s “Renew an Existing License” online application).
  2. Must submit Form DP for SCP and FORM FRS and the supporting financial documents via NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse (within 7 days from the date the application is submitted). Both forms can be obtained at https://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/producers/forms/

You will apply as a new applicant for initial registration.  Follow the same instructions and requirements in the beginning of the page to apply for the initial Service Contract Provide registration via http://nipr.com (Use NIPR’s “Apply for a New License” online application).
