Mediation

Mediation is a dispute resolution process in which a neutral third party helps those in conflict define issues, explore solutions and reach practical, workable and mutually satisfactory agreements. Mediation seeks to prevent conflicts from escalating and strives to save the parties involved the time, expense and frustration of fighting their disputes in court.
Mediation depends upon the disputants coming up with their own agreement through discussion with the use of a neutral third party (the mediator). It differs from a court procedure where a final decision is imposed by a judge.
The Mediation Center of the Pacific makes mediation assistance available to people seeking to resolve disputes between:
- neighbors
- landlords and tenants
- consumers and merchants
- divorcing couples
- parents and children
- juvenile offenders and their victims (regarding restitution)
- parties in small claims court
- parents and schools
- citizens and government agencies
- parties in condominium associations
- community and business organizations
