Nonresident Managing General Agent

Effective January 1, 2022, penalty fee, reinstatement term, CE term and certain licensing requirements will be changed and implemented, please refer to Commissioner’s Memorandum 2021 – 9LIC for more information.

Effective November 15, 2022, new changes and mandatory requirements for individuals and business entities due to the transition to NAIC’s State Based System (SBS), please refer to Commissioner’s Memorandum 2022-10LIC.

Nonresident Managing General Agent – Individual (Initial License)

For initial or if you held a HI nonresident Managing General Agent was inactive for more than one year.

Before submitting your online application, you must be licensed as a HI nonresident Producer.

Go to http://nipr.com/ to apply for your license (use NIPR’s “Apply for a New License” online application)

Appointments:

An appointment is not required to be submitted at time of application, but an appointment must be in place to do business. Appointment and termination of appointment must be submitted online via NIPR. Paper submission is no longer acceptable.

IMPORTANT: Statement for MGA Appointment  – via NIPR’s Attachments Warehouse (within 7 days from the date the appointment is submitted).  Statement for MGA Appointment can be obtain at https://cca.hawaii.gov/ins/producers/forms/.  Insurer must provide a statement of the duties the MGA will be performing on their behalf.

Nonresident Managing General Agent – Business Entity (Initial License)

For initial or if you held a HI nonresident Managing General Agent as inactive for more than one year.

Before submitting your online application:

You must be licensed as a HI nonresident Producer.

To apply electronically:

1. Go to http://nipr.com (Use NIPR’s “Apply for a New License” online application)

2. Submit a name of a licensed HI Producer (resident or nonresident) who is a natural person that will be responsible for the agency’s compliance with Hawaii insurance laws and rules.

Appointments:

An appointment is not required to be submitted at time of application, but an appointment must be in place to do business. Appointment and termination of appointment must be submitted online via NIPR. Paper submission is no longer acceptable.

The statement above is required to be attached to the NIPR’s attachment Warehouse within 7 days of submitting the appointment.   Your appointment may be considered “rejected” if Licensing Branch does not receive the document(s) within 7 days from the date the appointment is submitted.  No refund if application is rejected.

Nonresident Managing General Agent – Individual & Business Entity (License Renewal & Late Renewal)

LATE RENEWAL: If you held a HI nonresident Managing General Agent license that has been inactivated within one year of expiration.

Before submitting your online application, you must be licensed as a HI nonresident Producer.

Renew or pay renewal late fee electronically at  http://nipr.com/ (Use NIPR’s “Renew an Existing License” online application).

Nonresident Managing General Agent – Individual or Business Entity (License Reinstatement)

REINSTATEMENT: If you held a HI nonresident Managing General Agent license that has been inactivated for more than one year.  You must apply as a new applicant.

You will apply as a new applicant for initial application.  Follow the same instructions and requirements in the beginning of the page to apply for the individual (Initial) or the business entity (initial) Managing General Agent license via http://nipr.com (Use NIPR’s “Apply for a New License” online application).
