Check on a Business or Worker

In the interest of public health, welfare and safety, a professional or vocational license is required  to perform certain services for consumers in a regulated industry. The professional or vocational license is not the general excise tax license, or the registration or authorization to conduct business in the state.  The licenses that are regulated by RICO are issued and managed by the Professional and Vocational Licensing Division (PVL) within the DCCA, and holders of such licenses are governed by the industry board, commission or program.

The professional or vocational license is a significant achievement for the holder and it assures consumers of that specific-service or treatment that the person they will hire has the education, training and experience needed to competently perform the specialized work.  If an individual or company performs work in a regulated industry that requires a license, but they do not have one, the individual or company presents a very high risk of harm to the consumer.

The following resources are available to help you decide whether to hire the business or individual for the service or treatment you will be paying for.
