HAWAII INSURANCE COMMISSIONER GORDON ITO ELECTED AS 2018 NAIC OFFICER

HONOLULU – Members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) have elected Hawaii Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito to serve as Secretary-Treasurer starting Jan. 1, 2018.  The NAIC is organization comprised of all 50 states and territories commissioners, directors, and superintendents of insurance in the United States.

“It is an honor and privilege to be elected as the NAIC’s Secretary-Treasurer.  I look forward to being part of the NAIC leadership team to assist our member states and territories, and to continue to meet the challenges and changes in our insurance market,” said Hawaii Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito.

The election took place during the NAIC Fall 2017 National Meeting held in Honolulu from Dec. 2-4, 2017.  Hawaii also hosted the NAIC’s Fourth Annual Asia-Pacific International Forum that was also held in Honolulu Nov. 30-Dec. 1, 2017.

Commissioner Ito has served as Insurance Commissioner since July 2010.  He was reappointed by Governor David Ige on January 2015. Prior to his appointment, he was the Chief Deputy Insurance Commissioner since 2000 and was the Supervising Attorney of the Insurance Division from 1993-2000. Commissioner Ito obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii and a law degree from the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law.

The Hawaii Insurance Division oversees the Hawaii insurance industry, issues licenses; examines the fiscal condition of Hawaii-based companies; reviews rate and policy filings; and investigates insurance related complaints.
