SCAM ALERT! HECO warns of fraudulent calls pretending to be from the utility

In a recent news release, the Hawaiian Electric Companies are warning its customers to “just hang up” is you receive a call from someone demanding immediate payment over the phone or via prepaid debit cards. It is a scam. If you receive such a call, customers are directed to hang up, then dial the customer service line that is printed on the your monthly electric bill or listed on the company’s website. Do not call the number displayed on your caller ID, even if is says, “HECO,” “MECO” or “HELCO.”
