Maui’s second large-scale photovoltaic solar project came online on October 4. Maui Electric Company’s (MECO) project is under a power purchase agreement with Ku’ia Solar, LLC, which is independently owned by Kenyon Energy. Currently, Maui County has a renewable energy portfolio of 34% – ahead of the state’s target of 30 percent renewable energy by 2020.
